Hind legs and tail of the Labrador

The hind legs are more massive than the others. Joint angles are also more open. Generally, the thighs are more bulky. The knee sets the boundary between the thigh and leg, which is long and oblique.

The hock delimits the beginning of the lower end of the limb, the rod, which is obliquely forward and sometimes has a spur on its inner edge.

In general, the foot is a little shorter than the inner limb.

The tail is specific to each race, both by its length and its size and demeanor. It can be corkscrew (Spitz), Fringed with long (Setter), shortened (Terrier). The dogs are born tailless anurans are known, while those born with a short tail are called brachyuran.

The demeanor of the tail may be straight, horizontal or curved. In Labrador, the tail, known as "otter tail" is typical, round, thick and horizontal. Its length is correct when its tip reaches the hock.

The eyes of the Labrador

The eyeballs are more or less sunk in the orbits (eye bulging to the Pug). The eyelid opening may be round, as in the Pointer, or almond (eye tearing) on shepherd dogs and Nordic dogs. The expression depends essentially on the eyes, which should show liveliness, honesty and gentleness. The eye of the Labrador is of medium size, slightly almond and expressed his good mood.

The dog has two eyelids clearly visible, an upper and a lower one. They should be fine, separated, well pigmented and have eyelashes on the edges. The outside is made up of hair-covered skin and inside, the palpebral conjunctiva is a pink mucous. Below the upper eyelid there is the tear gland where the tears originate and hydrate the cornea. In the inner corner of each eyelid, there is a small channel, the lachrymal, which goes into the nostril.

The dog has a third eyelid, the nictitating membrane, covered largely by the lower lid. This film is involved in protecting the eye andplays the role of a windshield wiper and remover of foreign bodies.

The coloration of the eye depends on the pigmentation of the iris. It's almost always preferred to be pronounced, ie brown. Indeed, it is a sign of good organic balance. This color goes through all ranges of the color, up to black. It is undesirable an eye which is too light (eye bird of prey), which discredits the most beautiful dog.

The color does not keep compulsary relation to fur color. A clear smooth coat may be associated with dark eyes, as in the case of the Samoyed, which must have black eyes. In dogs with blue-gray fur, such as the Weimaraner, blue or brindle blue hair, the color of the eyes can be light. Finally, the color can be changed during the life of the animal. In Labrador, the eyes are always hazel brown or brown whatever the color of their fur.

When the two eyes do not have the same color, are called anisocromos. It's a case of heterochromia. This phenomenon is not rare but not desirable. Nevertheless, it is tolerated in the Siberian Husky.

Sometimes the eye has an iris pigmentation defect, when this occurs, the eye can be partly or wholly blue. It is a frequent defect that occurs in the tricolor or brindle. It can affect one or both eyes. Do not confuse thecolorless eye with the eye of a different color (blue) of the Siberian Husky. It is preferable to eliminate the breeding of animals that have this defect.

The eyes may have other defects, such as cataract (lens opacity), entropion (overturning or reversal of the eyelids inward). Glaucoma is the result of increased intraocular pressure without increasing the size of the eye and strabismus is a defect of ocular convergence of the axes.
